STREAMS Equals Holistic Development

One of this year’s STREAMS Academy participants is a fourth year student from Cagayan de Oro National High School. Rea Mae Perasol has been a Junior Rower for two months now, and in her two months of staying in the program, how is Rea Mae?

“I really enjoyed the activities of STREAMS… [There is an] improvement in my critical thinking and in my social skills,” Rea Mae said when asked about what effects her stay in the academy did for her. Rea Mae added that she is improving in her studies. In fact, she humbly mentioned that “my average grade now is 93.55% and I’m still the first honors in our class.”

Aside from academic improvements, Rea Mae also shared about the value of camaraderie. Rea Mae said that she, her co-participants, and the STREAMS tutors and volunteers are becoming friends. It is not surprising since Rea Perasol is obviously a lady filled with congeniality.

According to her, the most important thing that she learned from the program is to “face the fears in life while focusing on your studies, and never reprimanding oneself from the companionship of other people.”

Rea Mae Perasol was competing for the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) held at Camiguin Island during the phone interview.
