What Is STREAMS?

STREAMS is an educational program of Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan that seeks to provide academic assistance to deprived high school students in Cagayan de Oro and its neighboring municipalities in Misamis Oriental.

This is the Atenean response to address the problems that are faced by most students in the country—lack of opportunities, lack of self esteem, and lack of financial resources.

STREAMS is the Atenean way of empowering high school youth by preparing them for college, providing them with the knowledge and sharpening their potentials through personality development and leadership opportunities through the enrichment classes in the following subjects: Math, English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

This is just an overview of the things that we actually do in STREAMS. Conducting academic enrichment sessions with our high school participants and facilitating workshops etc., may seem like rather simple things, but the heart of what we have been doing in the program for the past years is to alleviate poverty in the country and finally end the viscious cycle of poverty.

The structure of STREAMS is divided into three: the core group, which consists of the President, the Secretary-General, the Vice President for Administration and the Vice President for Academics. Under the two vice presidents are different departments. For the administrative cluster, we have: Marketing, Participants Formation, Press Relations, Volunteers Formation, Scholarships, Branding Department and the Budget and Finance Officer. The Academic Cluster on the other hand consists of the following departments: English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
